This charming bird is a waxbill that boasts a striking red bill and a deep blue tail. The male’s coloring is especially bold, with a reddish-brown hood, a purple belly, and purple and red patches around the eyes. Females are mostly reddish-brown with light blue spots above and below the eye. They are found in a variety of habitats, including savannas and forests, and often travel in small groups, occasionally mingling with other species.
